Hello and welcome everybody from across the world joining us live on Facebook for our show, Pulse by healthjobhub. Today I have a very special guest joining us live on Pulse. It is my honour and privilege to welcome Dr Clifford Bierman all the way from Boston USA to our show this morning. Good morning Dr Bierman, thank you for joining us how are you this morning?

Clifford Bierman - bio 4/2020

Clifford Bierman, M.D., is an anesthesiologist in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A. His passion for providing healthcare to the less fortunate began as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in the early 1980s, and he has subsequently participated in 30+ surgical missions in low and middle income countries.

Dr. Bierman has 35 years experience in medicine, dentistry, and public health both nationally and internationally; public and private sectors, academics and private practice. He is proficient in paediatric anesthesia, regional anesthesia, airway management, patient safety/simulation, and delivery of anesthesia and surgical care in limited resource environments. 

His commitment to patient safety includes instructorship status for the anesthesia simulator, whereby trainees are assessed, then educated in behavioural and communication skills during simulated operating room crises.

In addition to travel and exploring different cultures, Dr. Bierman enjoys reading novels, swimming, hiking with the dogs, and lately gardening!

Dr. Bierman received his B.S. from State University at New York at Albany, his D.D.S. from New York University, his M.D. from the University of Connecticut, and his M.P.H. from University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

  1. Please share your story about what inspired you to pursue a career in dentistry,  then go on to pursue a career in medicine, specialize in Anesthesia and become a humanitarian?
  2. You continue to regularly participate in surgical missions to low income countries. Which countries have you been to on your volunteer missions and what drives you to do all this incredible humanitarian work?
  3. Please share your experiences about your mission to South Africa with the Tshemba Foundation? 
  4. How does volunteering with Tshemba Foundation differ to other organizations you have volunteered with?
  5. In creating Pulse one of our goals is to have our “finger on the pulse”

5.1) USA has been hardest hit with the outbreak of the global pandemic (COVID-19) aka corona virus. Please share your experience working during COVID-19? 

5.2) What is your medical advice for all of us who are staying home and waiting in anticipation for this lockdown to end?
